EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Regular hours of work are Monday through Friday, schedule TBD.
Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
30 hours per week for 42 weeks per year; 33 hours per week for 42 weeks per year; 37.
5 hours per week for 42 weeks per year; or 40 hours per week for 42 weeks per year.
FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
All positions must have experience with young children and their families; such as knowledge of human development, family dynamics and the needs of children.
Knowledge of the health, nutrition, social, and educational needs of the young child.
Teacher Assistant: Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Obtain a CDA within 24 months of hire.
Teacher Assistant II: Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and a CDA in Early Childhood Education.
Teacher Assistant I: Possess an AA in Early Childhood Education.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
To assist the teacher in planning, preparing, and implementing appropriate daily activities which meet the needs of Head Start children and families, and promote the Head Start child’s total development.
Be responsible for, along with the teacher and component coordinators, the delivery of all component services to the children and families enrolled, while in the classroom.
In accordance with the philosophy of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), develop and maintain positive working relationship with all staff in the agency and demonstrate a positive attitude towards all clients and other persons with whom you come in contact during the course of your job.
Implement the PBIS philosophy and/or strategies in the workplace (classroom, families’ homes, office, off-site trainings, community, etc.
) at all times.
Be able to lift 50 lbs.
Be able to kneel, stoop, bend, reach, and sit on the floor on a daily basis.
Travel is not typically expected but may arise as job duties demand.
SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Understand and work to achieve the goals, philosophy, and objectives of the Head Start program.
Assist in planning and directing activities of the children assigned to the classroom; activities which will foster development of each child’s potential in all areas.
Assume responsibility for center day/socialization day activities for the children.
Assist the teacher in weekly planning for classroom/socialization day activities for the children.
Assist the teacher in involving parents in the center/socialization and on other appropriate occasions (field trips, volunteering, committees, Policy Council, etc).
Support teacher in the implementation of activities based on current curriculum.
Assume responsibility for the classroom’s appearance and housekeeping chores.
Assist managers in all related matters where deemed necessary.
Complete accurate records on all children enrolled in the program.
Keep confidential any matters pertaining to a child and/or family involved with Head Start.
Assist the teacher in helping orient new volunteers and visitors.
Promote understanding and cooperation between Head Start parents and staff.
Attend all staff meetings.
Maintain frequent, open communication with the Director and all management staff.
Participate in staff training and development sessions.
Participate in CDA training and work to obtain CDA credential.
Act as a representative of Head Start in the community to strengthen the image of Head Start.
Complete all duties as deemed necessary by the Head Start Director, component staff, and teacher for the efficient operation of the Head Start program.
