This position will be primarily located in Wilkes-Barre City with assignment to also include reporting to UNC Sites (Community Services Building in Scranton) as needed.
Familiarity with Luzerne County is a requirement.
Hours: Full time Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm – flexibility in scheduling will be required based on resident availability for evening appointments as needed.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Community Services, the Resident Service Coordinator facilitates bringing public housing resident leaders and residents together to identify needs and develop resources to realize a common vision of self-sufficiency and independence.
Through the creation and strengthening of partnerships with community agencies and neighborhood groups, resources are enhanced and mutually beneficial strategies for solving problems are developed.
The ideal candidate is a motivated creative thinker who enjoys problem solving, interacting with the public, and finds reward in serving vulnerable populations.
The Resident Service Coordinator navigates a fast-paced environment and diverse populations with ease by utilizing strong professionalism, inter-personal skills, de-escalation techniques, and excellent customer service.
Responsibilities:
Network with residents to develop community leadership within the development.
Work with leaders to identify community needs and develop programs on-site at each housing development; strengthen resident leadership skills.
Facilitate changing residents’ perceptions of themselves and their abilities; encourage a shift from seeing problems to seeing potential for themselves and their community.
Reach out to residents door-to-door; coordinate participation in neighborhood organizing and community building efforts.
Engage residents in community programs including the development of more resident leaders and coordinate community volunteers.
Help resident groups and community partners/contractors to build and strengthen partnerships.
Disseminate information about the work of the resident leadership groups and provide evaluation and recommendations for the continuation of their work.
Conduct intakes at Community Services building.
Meet regularly with Resident Leaders, Community Services Director, and administrative staff to develop community partnerships and strengthen organizing strategies.
Coordinate efforts with other UNC programs as appropriate.
Enter service and program information into ClientTrack database system.
Coordinate working hours with Community Services Assistant Director to best meet needs of program development.
Perform all other duties deemed necessary by Department Director or President & CEO.
Education/Experience/Licensure
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Bachelor degree in social work, counseling, or related field is preferred.
Position will be primarily located in Wilkes-Barre City.
Familiarity with Luzerne County is a requirement.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
Proficiency in MS Office 365 is preferred.
